Manchester United on Sunday Night equal Liverpool with the most major trophies won by an English club. Both clubs (Liverpool and Manchester United) have each won 41 competitive trophies each.
Manchester United claimed the fifth EFL Cup after defeating Southampton 3 - 2 on the night, first goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first-half added by Man. United's second goal from Jesse Lingard and 87th minute goal from Ibrahimovic won the cup for Manchester United.
Though, Southampton has a very good game, taking United on especially from the 2nd-half which eventually paid-off with two quick goals from Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini in each half to restore parity before Ibrahimovic's winner three minutes from regular time.
Liverpool still lead the way on the EFL Cup having won the competition eight times with last victory dated back to 2012. Manchester United can surpass Liverpool's trophies haul if they win the FA cup (to meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the quarter-finals) and the Europa League where they meet Rostov in round-16, as well as English Premier League. Liverpool only have the English Premier League to bargain for.
