Breaking News: Colombia Plane Crash - 76 Dead including footballers

A chartered plane carrying Brazilian first division soccer team, Chapecoense crashed in Cerro Gordo close to Medellin as they travel for a regional tournament where 76 people dead and three player survived and two others.

The craft, a British Aerospace 146 short-haul plane operated by LaMia make an emergency landing at 10 pm on Monday due to failure in the electrical part of the aircraft. The plane took off from Bolivia Santa Cruz to land at Medellin's Jose Maria Cordova airport.

Chapecoense started their journey in the city of Sao Paulo had a match to play on Wednesday in the first leg of Copa Sudamericana final against a team from Colombia, Atletico Nacional of Medellin. The team has 22-players.

Medellin Mayor, Federico Gutierrez said "What was supposed to be a celebration has turned into a tragedy" at the search and rescue center of the site. He sais "a tragedy of huge proportions".

The five people that survived are three players - Danilo, Jackson Follman and Alan Rushel, a member of the crew Ximena Suarez and a journalist Rafael Henzel.

Authorities and rescuers were immediately activated but an air force helicopter had to turn back because of low visibility. Heavy rainfall complicated the nighttime search, and authorities urged journalists to stay off the roads so ambulances and other rescuers could reach the site.

The club's Vice President, Ivan Tozzo told a Brazilian Sport Tv "That Chapecoense was the biggest source of happiness in the town, now Many are crying in the town"

    1. The match is suspended for now....the club and the federation will meet to decide on it. This is the first leg of a final of Copa Sudamericana.

  2. The match is suspended for now....the club and the federation will meet to decide on it. Though, it will might be next 2017 before the match can be played. Just three players out of 22-players survived.
