Serena Williams defeated Angelique Kerber in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to win a seventh Wimbledon and a record-tying 22nd grand slams on Saturday in a dogged and high-quality Wimbledon final.
It was the same Kerber who defeated Serena Williams in Melbourne earlier this year January at Australian Open.
"I have definitely had some sleepless nights with a lot of stuff, coming so close and feeling it and not being able to get there." She says: "This tournament I came in with a different mindset. In Melbourne I thought I played well but Angelique played great, and better. So I knew going into this one I needed to be calm and be confident and play the tennis I've been playing for well over a decade."
Serena, 34-year-old now tally with another German Steffi Graf on 22 grand slams with less two grand slams for her to joint-top the all time record, Margaret Court. She hit 13 aces and 39 winners.
Angelique Kerber who ends with 12 winners and 9-unforced errors told reporters that "of course it feels disappointing, that's for sure. But also I know that I played a good final."
"I lost against a really strong Serena today. This makes it a little bit better that I know that she won the match, not that I lost the match, because she played very well."
A few hours after equalling Steffi Graf's open-era record of 22 grand slam singles, Serena Williams partner with her sister Venus Williams to win their sixth Wimbledon title together and their 14th in all beating Timea Babos of Hungary and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-4.
It is the fourth time Serena has won both titles in the same year, while Venus had done the double twice. It is also four years ago that they won Wimbledon title together, Serena and Venus are now 14 - 0 in grand slam finals.

"It was really special," Serena said. "It was really awesome to be out there, to be playing next to Venus, to win Wimbledon again. We've won, I don't know how many now, but we love it. We love playing doubles and being together out there."
Venus said: "Watching Serena earlier was so amazing and I was so into that. :Then you've got to reset yourself and say, 'OK, we've got to play a match and try to win'. She brought the energy from game one and that brought me up, too."
