Cameroon Are Africa Champions 2017

Gabon AFCON 2017 finals between the two most successful AFCON winners was one of the best finals in recent time. Egypt before Sunday finals against Cameroon had won it seventh times including the three consecutive trophies from 2006, 2008 and 2010. Cameroon who will be hosting the next edition in 2019 lost to Egypt Nine years ago in their last finals before this victory on Sunday.

Cameroon came from behind to defeat Egypt 2 - 1 that crowned the Indomitable Lions her fifth AFCON Cup in history making it just two less than Egypt. Arsenal Midfielder Mohamed Elneny gave the Egyptians hope of extending the records when beat Cameroon's Goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa high at his near post after finding his way inside the box down the right.

Nicolas Nkoulou power home a header through from a corner kick taking by Benjamin Moukandjo to give Cameroon high hope in the 59th minutes and then something special came from Vincent Aboubaker one of the two or three experienced players in the Cameroon side that has lot of young players coming to the tournament for the first time after several key players called rejected to represent their nations as regards club commitment. Aboubaker scores with two minutes to end full 90 minutes, he latched onto a Sebastien Siani pass.




It’s been a remarkable run, dumping out one favourite after another. Senegal in the quarter-finals via penalty shoot-out after Liverpool's Sadio Mane miss the last kick for Senegal that gave Cameroon room to move on with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the decisive goal. Next up was the Black Stars of Ghana, who Cameroon surprised 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Hugo Broos, Cameroon Coach the Belgian is 64 had never managed an international side before despite having been successful at club level, winning three league titles with Club Brugge and Anderlecht. He got the Cameroon job advertised online and applied after been out of work for a year because he left Algerian club side NA Hussein Dey that time. Though, he got experienced with some different club sides across Europe in Greece, Turkey and far East Abu Dhabi.

    1. Yes Congratulations! to them...they deserved to win despite all the ups and downs when all the so called "big players" rejected call to play for the national team.

      This victory will put them to shame and rejoice for the young players that do the business in Gabon AFCON 2017.
