Breaking News: Maria Sharapova banned for two-year for doping

The International Tennis Federation has given Maria Sharapova two-year suspension from tennis taking effects from 26th of January 2016 for failing a drug test.

She will not play tennis until 2018

She was provisionally suspended in march after revealing she had tested positive for meldonium at the australian Open. The 29 year-old from Russia will not be able to tennis again until January 26 2018.

Maria said had been using the substance mildronate which was prescribed by her in 2006 to deal with health issues like irregular heartbeat and diabetes.

“I let my fans down, I let the sport down that I have been playing since the age of four and I love so deeply,” said Sharapova to the gathered media.
“I know with this I face consequences and I don’t want to end my career this way and I really hope I will be given another chance to play this game.”
